The collection consists of papers relating to the Cason J. Callaway family and the family's involvement in developing Callaway Gardens from ca. 1864-present. Cason Callaway's career as an industrialist and philanthropist can be traced through the correspondence/subject files, clippings/publications, and photographs/audio visuals series. The development of Callaway Gardens is also documented in Callaway's correspondence/subject files, the clippings/publications series, and the Horticultural Dept. records; but other significant information relating to the building of the Garden can be found in engineer Eitel Bauer's files. The large photographs/audio visuals series provides an important visual record of both Callaway's career and the development of the Gardens.
